Iceland is home to over 200 cascading waterfalls. Each one being unique in location, height, width, and solitary allure. In Southern Iceland, you will find a variety of waterfalls that are perfect for visiting to capture immaculate images of the falls and possibly a rainbow if you’re lucky. Some of them you’ll be able to walk on or tuck yourself underneath.


Þingvellir National Park

Thingvellir National Park is a historical site and national park in Iceland which is located on a breached valley. visitors are able to walk along the paths and boardwalks inside the park. Waterfalls and streams can be found along the routes in the park.


Gullfoss (Golden Falls)

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland, Gullfoss is breathtaking from various perspectives. There are quite a few viewing points and walking trails to view this waterfall from. When you are at eye level standing from behind where the waterfall drops, you can see the water flow down the canyon within the Olfusa river.


Faxi (Vatnsleysufoss)

Along the Golden Circle route of southern Iceland you’ll be able to access the panoramic views of Vatnsleysufoss located on the Tungufljót river.


Seljalandsfoss

What is unique about Seljalandsfoss is that you are able to do a 360 walking tour of it. You can start directly in front of the falls then make your way counterclockwise walking behind it and continue by walking up to a viewing point then back down in front.



Skógafoss

One of Iceland’s largest waterfalls in the country is located along the Skógá River. Skógafoss can be viewed by walking up to the falls to where it drops and on the right side if you dare, you can climb up the stairs for the high rise viewing point.
